Noa's progress report

I have finished 90% of this Noa costume!!!! All I need to do is find the jewelry (which I need for my ballgown, too), edge the sarong-thing, and modify some sandals. I keep looking at it in my closet thinking, 'Is that really done?" Of course, that doesn't mean that I can take a break >sigh< I'm just pumped that I'm done with a costume BEFORE April!!!! Now I have, what, four more? No rest for the weary.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyway, my next free weekend is going to be March 17th to the 18th. However, my time will be limited to Sat. morning until Sun. at 1pm because I have class that following Monday as well as an internship that could start my day off at about 5:30am, yay. Candice, I know you want to come for an impromptu sewing weekend, Eliza needs to return because I have all her stuff (bring your mom's sewing machine!), & anyone else who wants to come, you know where I live. Just give me some advance warning if you're going to come so that the house can be cleaned to accomodate the appropriate number of people. Yep, let me know...
I think that's it, I'll post again if I think of something else!! Oh, duh, school stinks! I need a job that does not require homework (I know, wrong profession for me to be getting into >eye roll<).
Hello! Nice to meet you!
Thank you for this invite, Kylah :) Nice to meet you all! You can call me Lauren or Lerra, it doesn't matter :) I will be joining you guys this year for Anime Boston, and I am super excited! I already did my pre-registration and I mailed in my check, so I should be set! Yay! (^^) Just a little background info (so you don't think I am a complete stranger -- Hehe!): I play FFXI with Lyndsey/Kiarren, and I am in her linkshell BlackRose. Hehe :) Anywho, thanks again for the invite!
Memo from Kiarrens
Here's the back of Ed's formal jacket. Lyndsey wanted me to share it with you all, yes, let us all stand in her glory and soak it up, yes, FEEL the otaku! Can you feel it? Lemme hear you say "ah," Lemmie here you say->whack< Moving on! I think the jacket will look lovely with Noa's dress as they make their grand entrance into the ballroom >cue creepy anime laugh "Oooohohohohohoho"< Good job Lyndsey & definitely go with the vest to accent as opposed to the pants. >gasp< instead of cufflinks, you should use nuts & bolts!!!! They do essentially the same thing, but that would be so funny.
From the prodigal costumer
Hello everyone! I'm sorry I missed such a productive and fun sewing weekend. It sounds like you all got a lot done. I wish I could have joined you, but the Nazi's I work for have this thing about not letting staff disappear during the holiday season... especially during the weekend. I've also discovered a snafoo- my manager claims no one can go anywhere during the school vacation in April because she's taking her daughter on a trip, but she already told me the dates I gave her for Anime Boston were fine. I didn't realize it was the same week until yesterday. This means a large argument tomorrow at work. Unforunately, I may not win the argument, so it's entirely possible I may not be able to go to AB this year. Cross your fingers for me ladies! I'll keep you posted. Oh, and if any of you feel like, I have a blog that I was asked to do for a website in Camden. It's owned by Courier Publications- they own the 5 local newspapers. I'm pretty excited about it- people can leave comments and it's doing pretty well so far. I'm hoping that if it does well, they'll actually want me to maybe do a column or something that actually pays. :) So, here's the link: http://www.mainecoastnow.com/blog/chronicles_of_candice/ and feel free to leave some comments!!! Hope to see all of you soon!
Successful Sewing
Here is a summary (not very short) of our sewing weekend where we worked on some costumes for AB'07. You know, my parents went to that New Year's Eve party & the neighbors were like "why are there so many cars in your driveway?" (we had 5 guests + 4 family members + one of my sisters who was in & out + an extra truck = about 11 cars at the most), well my Mum tried to explain, but the neighbors were just like, "ooookay, they're making costumes of animated characters to wear at a convention where there are more people doing the same thing....riiiiiiight." My Mum defended us though & said that we all just have a lot of fun, which my neighbors didn't understand (because it does not involve alcohol of some form). Screw them, WE ROCK!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!! Now on to the photos.
Yes, alchemy started in the kitchen & aside from the occasional rat chunk, Rachel (Winry) was a very good pancake flipper. Kylah (Noa) is, unfortunately, not as good.
We made quite a mess. After staying up late Saturday night, the quote of the day on Sunday was "How pathetic is that, we get out of bed and just start sewing again." Which we did. It was a very successful weekend though. Eliza sewed (& did a marvelous job of it), Rachel did some good work on her Rosette costume, Lyndsey's formal Ed jacket is coming along beautifully, Jenna's formal kimono is absolutely gorgeous, Sara started her formal dress, and Kylah got some of her Noa costume done!
Later Sunday night, Lyndsey had a little trouble getting a bowl, she wouldn't let me or Jenna help, but she eventually got it. All we could think of was FMA because she loves that series so much & she always cosplay's as Ed. It was pretty funny.
Well, sewing weekend 2006 was great fun. Everyone came on Saturday & it snowed! That was kind of harrowing for Lyndsey & Rachel who came up from Connecticut. When Sara, Jenna, & Eliza got to my house we all loaded up in the car and went over to Joann Fabrics (big sale) to get some stuff that we thought we would need (Jenna & Eliza got some formal kimono fabric, whereas Sara got some formal fabric for her dress, & I got lots of tulle for my underskirt). It was pretty funny, I think we spent an hour in there (or more). We have to send out a major thanks to Marie at the cutting table because Jenna had about 15 bolts to be cut, Eliza had about 5, I had 4, & Sara had 2, and no, we couldn't get just a yard, we had to get 6 yards here, 8 yards there, the whole bolt, it was crazy.
Then me, Lyndsey, & Rachel went Sunday morning & we got more. At first Marie didn't say anything, but then she started to talk about us from the day before. I looked at Lyndsey and the three of us burst out laughing and Marie noticed that I had been in the group Saturday. She then said she didn't remember Lyndsey & Rachel & they said they hadn't been there & she said "Oh, so you two were the ones who were calling her while they were in line?" That was pretty funny.
But, aside from traumatizing the ladies at Joann Fabrics, we did a lot and I am looking into when I get another break so that Candice can come down and work on her costume(s)! If anyone else wants to come that weekend too, just give me a shout when I post the date(s) I am free! I will post with plenty of warning this time!
